In Memoriam of President Rugova

On behalf of the Board of Directors and members of the Albanian American Civic League, we send our deepest condolences to the family of President Ibrahim Rugova, to his colleagues, and to the people of Kosova.

Dr. Rugova’s philosophy of nonviolence and use of passive resistance in response to Serbia’s invasion and brutal occupation of Kosova saved many Albanian lives. We remember his courage in joining the Civic League in Washington in 1990 to represent the democratic aspirations and yearning for freedom of the people of Kosova. He will long be remembered as the leader who began the independence movement. We can best honor his memory by working hard to insure that the independence of Kosova becomes a reality soon.
